I

first started doing my line drawings of “Rogues” in 1957, when I worked as a timekeeper at Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach.  In fact, my first Rogues were done on blue time cards.  The complete title of this first series, which I have numbered, is “Rogues Gallery of the Insane,”  so named because they depict the twisted lineaments of so-called “ordinary” people, revealing the troubled depths of their souls, as if the struggle for existence has distorted something fundamental within them.
